SMD Branch School

Writer's picture: NBF CanadaNBF Canada

During the summer retreat, SMD branch school monks were given a lesson on health and hygiene by Jamyang Dorje, a medically trained former monk. Speaking about communicable diseases such as chicken pox, and measures to prevent spreading, Jamyang Dorje also shared his concern regarding the consumption of unhealthy and unhygienic food as well as the importance of consuming a balanced diet. The monks had an opportunity to ask questions and discuss personal concerns.

Gen Thinley Sangye recently spent a month teaching Tibetan language classes at SMDBS which culminated in a reading test to emphasize the importance of improving reading skills quickly, through clear and correct pronunciation. He also gave advice on the importance of reading and learning Tibetan scriptures ~ the basis of all Buddhist studies in the Tibetan tradition. Khenpo Chonyi also gave advice on the relationship between teachers and students.

Also, the weather in Nepal has finally permitted some long overdue repairs and painting of the monk's dormitories and school offices, both inside and out.
